Introduction

The Holy Family Congregation (CHF), founded by Saint Mariam Thresia in 1914, is a Pontifical Congregation of the Syro-Malabar Church dedicated to strengthening families through compassionate love and service. Inspired by the spirituality of its founder, CHF focuses on making families holy and harmonious. Under its guidance, the Society for Family Harmony was established at Santhitheeram, North Paravur, as a registered non-profit organization to promote family well-being through counseling, awareness programs, and community development initiatives. One of its key projects, the Joice Joseph Rescue Home, provides shelter, care, and support to elderly, abandoned and emotionally disturbed women, embodying the congregation’s mission of love and service to vulnerable populations. Together, these initiatives strive to create a harmonious and empowered society rooted in compassion and dignity.

Recognized as a Pontifical Congregation of the Syro-Malabar Church in 1978, CHF is dedicated to strengthening families through compassionate love and service. Inspired by the spirituality of Saint Mariam Thresia, who was canonized on 13 October 2019, the congregation focuses on making families holy and harmonious. About Society for Family Harmony

The Society for Family Harmony, based at Santhitheeram, North Paravur, Kochi, is a registered non-profit organization under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific & Charitable Societies Registration Act XII of 1955. Inspired by the charism of Saint Mariam Thresia, the society aims to promote family well-being through counseling services, awareness programs, and community development initiatives. With a dedicated team of eight laypeople and eight Holy Family Sisters, the society offers programs tailored to the needs of teachers, students, parents, children, and youth. Key initiatives include counseling, personality development, family retreats, and support for vulnerable women and orphans through the Joice Joseph Rescue Home.


Aims and Objectives

The society is to be functional as a society under The Travancore Cochin Library Scientific & Charitable Societies Registration Act, (1955 (Act 12 of 1955).The Income if any or funds of the society shall not at any event be distributed among the members or office bearer of the institution as profit or dividend. The society aims at the following:

  • To establish counseling centers for family enrichment, promoting, healthy and strong family relations through training, programmes for couple enrichment, effective parenting, communication, personality, development, pre - marital guidance etc.
  • To provide shelter and protection families, women and children in distress to rediscover the joy in relationship to overcome depression and grief to set relief from anxiety and stress.
  • To conduct psycho-social training programmes for trainers/leaders to expertise them in their respective areas of both Government and Public sector.
  • To start centers for the widows to provide them care, to make them engaged in some good cause to assist in utilizing their skills and knowledge for the wellbeing of the society at large.
  • To start rehabilitation centers for the poor, abused, abandoned women and children and other needy persons or to rehabilitate them in other suitable centers.
  • To establish de-addiction centers for the needy to withdraw from their dangerous habits and give a renewed life or situation in the family.
  • To organize, establish, help or start literary, scientific and other humanitarian projects for the well-being and to elevate the cultural social and economic standards of the people. This is purely a charitable society.

Bishop Mar Sebastian Adayanthrath, as the First Patron of the Society for Family Harmony, has been a pillar of strength and guidance for the organization. His support, encouragement, and care have been instrumental in shaping the society's mission and initiatives. With his spiritual leadership and vision, the society has been able to promote family harmony and well-being, and his patronage has lent credibility and authority to its efforts. The society is deeply grateful for his big support, which has been crucial in its formation and growth. His guidance and blessings continue to inspire and motivate the society to work towards its goals.

In pursuance of the above objects the Society may:

  • The society may open any Institutions under the society and maintain and manage them in order to materialize the objects of the society. The society may close down any of the activities under it as and when it is necessitated.
  • To provide a home away from home for a short period or provide rehabilitation for the vulnerable, Women particularly abandon children.
  • To be a home when they are threatened by the life partners, parents, their sisters or brothers or anybody.
  • To provide shelter and other facilities needed for the emotional support to strengthen the deserving people.
  • To provide with free legal services if they need.
  • To provide Psychiatric and Psychological support by volunteer expert and if they need constant therapy, possibilities will be inquired.
  • To calm down and strengthen them by giving counseling, who are going through tough situation.
  • To help those who are thrown out from their families or society and to make a meaning in their life and to look out possibilities where they can be rehabilitated in the shortest time possible.
  • To associate with and/or co-ordinate Governmental/quasi – governmental/non – governmental organizations, Local bodies, institutions and individuals to achieve the above objects of the society.
  • To strive to develop, organize, conduct and promote formal and informal training programs, seminars. Classes, studies etc. for imparting, balanced, complete and integrated information on the above subjects and in the field of care and rehabilitation and to conduct diploma and or certificate courses.
  • To support and promote educational activities for destitute children, orphans, drug addicts, problematic children from broken homes and street Kids.
  • To establish maintain, run, develop and improve institutions, centers and schools, research, training and technical institutions, rehabilitation centers, hostels, boarding, dispensaries to achieve the above objects of the society and to purchase movable and or immovable property for the same, only after getting permissions of concerned government authorities.
  • To provide awards scholarships, stipends, grants, subsidies etc. as required and to institute endowment fund for the benefit of needy and deserving especially women and children.
  • Conduct Seminars, Workshops, benefit shows, Meetings, Exhibitions, Printing of information's, Leaflets, Magazines, Books including publishing and sales.
  • Acquire by purchase, Lease, Mortgage, Loan , Gift, Grant Donation , Legacy, Bequest, Exchange, Right, Privileges or other ways from any Person, Company, Society , Government Institution, Organization or anybody, what so ever, movable properties of all description deemed necessary or useful for any purpose of the society.
  • Erecting buildings, Quarters for the staff, or any other type of Buildings, Purchase, Tools Equipment’s, Furniture, Machinery, etc, for the purpose of the society.
  • To raise funds to receive and hold gifts, donations or contributions whether of money or property, movable or immovable whether by gift, statements or by legacy or otherwise, to purchase movable or immovable property for the object of the society.
  • To accept donations, grants, presents and other offerings from individuals, institutions and governments for the functioning of the society and attainment of its objects.
  • To borrow or raise funds with or without security in a manner the may think fit from time to time and repay the same
  • To do all kinds of charitable services as found necessary in accordance with the aim of the society, to the extent permitted under the constitutions and statutes, essential or conducive to for the object of the society.
  • To establish or help social service institutions to ameliorate the conditions of the needy people.
